CCTV cameras or closed circuit television camera was a new technology in the field of premier security. The term closed circuit refers to a ‘self-contained’ system. CCTV cameras has become a part of the growth industry due to their role as a surveillance guide ensuring security. CCTV is seen as an excellent security tool however it plays equally important role in terms of monitoring and control. The early CCTV cameras did not have the facility for recording the media; hence their installation was a matter of high expense as equally high labour cost was needed to provide staff in order to keep constant watch on the video. But now CCTV has emerged as one of the most cost effective ways of ensuring high security.

CCTV was introduced in the early 1960’s when company’s such as the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) began introducing vacuum tube television cameras. The cameras grew rapidly throughout the 1970’s due to the increased reliability and technical improvements in the tube type cameras. The industry advanced the most in the 1980’s with the introduction of the solid state cameras. By early 1990’s all tube cameras of the past 30 years were replaced by the solid state cameras. The most significant explosion of the CCTV industry was the worldwide increase in theft and terrorism and commensurate need for protecting assets.
